Comment:
Red cells and Leucocytes in Trichrome stain. Red cells appear as round or elongate or distorted red - purple bodies with no granules or inclusions. Approx 7 microns. Leucocytes approx 10 - 12 microns, green cytoplasm and dark red nuclear material with a ratio of 1:1 (E. histolytica cysts approx 20 microns with a ratio nuclear to cytoplasm of 1:10 or 1:12 for trophozoites and 1:2 or 1:3 for the cyst). The nuclear segments of leucocytes are connected by short narrow chromatin bands unlike the parasite nuclei which are separate.
